One big thing that makes life decisions so stressful for everyone and can be an assumption that there’s a right choice and a wrong choice.

Though it may be hard to realize at the moment of choosing, you could be just as happy in either job, and neither is necessarily the “right” role for you.

When you get interrogated by people around you about your five-year plan, many people struggle to answer or deflect the question.

The Secret Of 7 Days Plan To Increasing Productivity

Even the determined, goal-oriented career coach wants you to plan out your life with the imposing ‘where do you see yourself in five years. You might be thinking, how can I predict the future?

An Odyssey Plan is not about predicting your future trajectory but rather about learning and ideating the elements that make up the version of you that’s “living your best life.”

Why is an Odyssey Plan a helpful tool?

Fundamentally, it made us consider the tenure of my career plans and decisions, and play the long game with this career, thinking about my ultimate goals and lifestyle aims and thinking about possibilities rather than current actualities.

It also forced me to consider alternative realities and let go of things having to be a certain way in order to achieve happiness or success

The Odyssey Plan concept also brings in all the underpinning values, belief systems, and work/life process so, it becomes a cohesive and multi-dimensional vision, rather than just a career trajectory.

How do you do an Odyssey Plan?

1. List three different five-year plans (you can use the worksheet available on the Designing Your Life website). The first life is the one you already live, or that you’ve already committed to.

The second life is the one you’d create if the opportunity to live the first life were suddenly gone.

The third life is the one you’d live if money and image didn’t matter.

2. Give each plan a six-word title. Now write down three questions about each version of your life.

3. Rank each life plan on whether you have the resources to fulfill it, how much you like it, how confident you are in it, and whether it fits with your general perspectives on life and work.

Odyssey Planning is a pretty cool way of projecting into the future and a very valuable activity for presenting ourselves with possible options and seeing what our intuition feels is right or wrong!.

we can find it kind of challenging at times as it requires being at once visionary and imaginative, entertaining the “what ifs” of existence, but also specific and concrete, plotting out the “how-to's” as well. Anyway, a great exercise for exploring where you want to go next.
